Hey book besties!
I just finished Glow of the Everflame (Kindred’s Curse, Book 2) and I’m excited to dive into all the juicy details with you. If you haven’t read the first book, heads up—there are spoilers ahead! Let’s chat about this romantasy adventure.
Genre: Romantasy
Tropes: Enemies to Lovers, Magical Training, He Falls First, Found Family, Magical Competition, Missing Mother, Unknown Father, Magical vs. Mortal, Shadow Daddy
Star Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
Spice Rating: 🌶 (1/5)
Synopsis:
After discovering she’s the new queen of Lumnos, Diem has to grapple with the shocking revelation that she’s not the mortal she thought she was—she’s actually half Descended. She moves into the palace, adopting the name Corbois to hide her potentially scandalous parentage.
Luther, the mysterious prince, reveals that the goddess Lumnos instructed him to serve a white-haired queen—Diem, of course. Diem battles her attraction to Luther while resenting what his royal status represents and her general disdain for the Descended.
As she adjusts to palace life, Diem finds a new “family” among some of the Descended, realizing that there are those who share her desire for justice and peace. She also has to navigate palace politics, avoid judgy cousins, meet important figures, and worry about potential challengers during her 30-day challenge period.
Things I Loved:
• Fated Mates Vibes: Diem and Luther are definitely fated mates, and I’m loving the “he falls first” trope. It adds so much tension and sweetness to their interactions.
• Diem’s Sass: Diem is hilarious, sassy, and fiercely independent. Her comebacks are gold, and she’s got major Aelin Galathynius vibes with her secret plans and impulsive actions.
• New Descended Friends: All of Diem’s new Descended friends have their own wonderful stories and traits. I’m obsessed with this found family dynamic.
Things I Didn’t Love:
• Henri’s Behavior: Hardly anything bothered me, honestly. But Henri’s attitude towards Diem once he realizes she’s Descended is infuriating. It makes me mad on her behalf. Also, Diem’s denial about her feelings for Luther and clinging to Henri is frustrating and I wanted to be Diem’s bestie in that moment and tell her to kick him to the curb! 😆
Overall Impressions:
Overall, I loved Glow of the Everflame! I’m so attached to these characters and can’t wait to see how their story unfolds. If you’re a fan of romantasy with a mix of magical politics, swoon-worthy romance, and a kickass heroine, definitely give this series a try!
