Spark of the Everflame: A Sizzling Romantasy Adventure
Share
Hey fellow bookworms!
I just finished Spark of the Everflame by Penn Cole, and I couldn’t wait to share my thoughts with you all. If you’re into romantasy, this one might just spark your interest (pun totally intended). And don’t worry—no spoilers here!
Genre: Romantasy
Tropes: Enemies to Lovers, Childhood Friends, Hidden Powers, Missing Mother, Unknown Father, Magical vs. Mortal, Shadow Daddy
Star Rating: ★★
Spice Rating: 🌶 (1/5)
Synopsis:
In this world, a race of god-like beings called the Kindred colonized the mortal world and fell in love with mortals. They bound their lives to the mortals they loved, and their descendants are known as the Descended. These magical elites have banned breeding between mortals and Descended to keep their magic pure, and any resulting children are forcibly killed. Mortals, meanwhile, live in slums and are treated like animals by the Descended. Our fierce FMC, Diem, was raised by mortals, unaware she’s half Descended. Her mother kept her heritage a secret and gave her medicine to suppress her magic. But when her mother disappears, sassy and independent Diem stops taking the medicine, allowing her powers to slowly manifest. She meets the mysterious broody prince, Luther, and feels an inexplicable draw to him.
Things I Loved:
• Top-Notch Tension: The tension between Luther and Diem is absolutely electric. I’m almost convinced they might be fated mates because their chemistry is off the charts.
• Diem’s Sassiness: Diem is incredible—hilarious, sassy, and fiercely independent. Her comebacks are gold, and she totally gives off Aelin Galathynius vibes with her secret plans and impulsive behaviors.
• Healer Storyline: Diem’s role as a healer adds a fascinating layer to her character. Her interactions with patients show her intelligence and compassion, making her even more lovable.
Things I Didn’t Love:
• Plot Pacing: The plot escalates super quickly. It feels like it’s going in one direction for about 75% of the book, then suddenly makes a sharp turn.
• Loose Ends: I need more info about the Guardians and how Henri reacts to everything. The ending felt rushed and left a lot of questions unanswered. But hey, I’m diving into the second book now, so fingers crossed for some clarity!
Overall Impressions:
Overall, I loved Spark of the Everflame! It kept me guessing, and the world-building and magic system are fantastic. I’m excited to see where the series goes next. If you’re a romantasy fan looking for a new adventure with lots of tension, sass, and magic, give this one a try!
Happy reading, everyone! And if you pick up Spark of the Everflame, let me know what you think!
